When You Go Sightseeing

One of the most iconic landmarks is the Duomo, a staggering cathedral whose red-tiled dome and dashing bell tower dominate the medieval cityscape. You can’t miss this fascinating cathedral.

Another architectural highlight is the Ponte Vecchio, a beautiful pedestrian bridge. The myth is that during the World War II, the Nazis were planning to destroy all the bridges that were connecting Florence with British army but Hitler told the commander to “keep the most artistic one”. In Florence you will find a lot of amazing churches. A mesmerizing one is Santa Croce. The art inside is truly spectacular and is considered to be some of the most impressive church art in Florence.

Of course it is made by their own recipe.   No trip to Florence is complete until you try the famous gelato. One incredible gelato you will have at Gelateria dei Neri. If you are not a fan of gelato just order a coffee or cappuccino. You will love it!

If you are looking for a less crowded place to sit and enjoy a nice meal, try the five-cheese gnocchi at Osteria Santo Spirito located on the south side of the Arno river. You will have a memorable experience in an authentic restaurant. If you are more for a pizza, check Gusta Pizza in the same area. You won’t regret it!  There is so much to eat in the city which makes it impossible to choose the best place. Try as many restaurants and cafes as you can.

What to do

As I am sure you will be seeking for the best spot to enjoy a breathtaking view, you don’t want to miss the tower from the imposing Palazzo Vecchio, the town hall. From the top floor of the museum you will benefit of an unforgettable view that includes the Duomo.   One thing you shouldn’t miss in Florence is shopping at Mercato Centrale. This market is perfect to delight yourself experiencing the Italian culture, tasting fresh produce, candies and pastries.   Florence is known for its great leather goods. You can buy quality leather anywhere around Florence, especially at the San Lorenzo market. Either you are looking for a wallet, a bag or a jacket here you will definitely find beautifully made leather items.   One more think that should be on your must do list is to watch the sunrise or the sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo. You can even find tours that will take you up the hill or you can take a taxi, it is cheaper. If you are more energetic just walk it. The view from this popular spot is worth the hike.   Dare to get lost, explore and wander on your own. This incredible city offers you countless and diverse treasures.
